Every business has a core.

Your core is your center of gravity: the expertise, credibility, and reputation that make a customer choose you over a competitor. It is your most important asset.

Gravity Pivot defends it by strengthening everything that revolves around it: your systems, data, processes, people, and technology.

The core

Start at the center.

What the core is

The core is what makes a customer choose you: your expertise, your credibility, and your reputation. It is your center of gravity. Every system, process, and person in your business revolves around it.

Why it matters

Everything else can be rebuilt. A lost contract comes back; a lost reputation rarely does. The core is the asset you can least afford to damage, and the one most businesses leave undefended.

Potential risks

  • Data breaches
  • Compliance gaps
  • Technical and knowledge debt
  • Legacy technology

Systems, Software & Applications

What it is

Your systems are where the work actually happens. They're how your team gets things done, how customers find you, where your data lives, and the fastest way to get manual work off your plate.

Why it matters

Many businesses run on at least one system nobody fully understands anymore. It still works, so nobody touches it. But every change becomes a gamble, every new hire takes longer to get up to speed, and the day it breaks there's no one left who knows why.

Potential risks

  • Undocumented systems
  • Legacy platforms
  • Bad data at the point of entry
  • Vendor lock-in

Cybersecurity

What it is

Cybersecurity is deciding who and what gets in, and making sure that's all that gets in. Users, devices, vendors, partners, and the software you run: each one is a door, and each one needs a lock that fits.

Why it matters

Where victim size was known, 96% of ransomware victims had fewer than 1,000 employees. Smaller businesses hold the same valuable data with a fraction of the defenses, and one bad login can cost you a client list, a payroll run, or the trust you've spent years earning.

Potential risks

  • Ransomware
  • Stolen credentials
  • Third-party access
  • Unmet compliance rules

Ring 3 of 5

Data Protection & Encryption

What it is

Some of your data has to stay private for years: client records, contracts, payroll, pricing. Data protection is knowing exactly where that data lives, how it moves, and what's keeping it unreadable to anyone who shouldn't see it.

Why it matters

Quantum computers are expected to break the encryption most businesses use today, and attackers can already steal encrypted data now to decrypt later. That means anything that has to stay private for years is exposed today. NIST published the replacement standards in 2024 and plans to retire today's vulnerable algorithms between 2030 and 2035.

Potential risks

  • Harvest-now, decrypt-later
  • Sensitive data in the wrong places
  • Aging encryption
  • No handling rules

Data & Analytics

What it is

Your data is every transaction, every job, every customer, and every decision you've ever made, written down. Done right, it tells you what's working, what's slipping, and what to do next.

Why it matters

Numbers you can't trust are worse than no numbers at all. When the same figure comes out different from two systems, people stop believing either one, and decisions go back to gut feel. Clean, connected data is what lets a small team act like a big one.

Potential risks

  • Numbers that don't reconcile
  • Data re-keyed between systems
  • Dashboards nobody trusts
  • Lost transaction history

Artificial Intelligence

What it is

AI is the newest thing in orbit, and the one that will change the most. Used well, it takes on the research, estimating, and repetitive work that eats your week, and it does it with a record of every step.

Why it matters

About 46% of small businesses already use AI, but only 7% of them have it fully working, and accuracy is the top complaint. Your biggest risk isn't AI itself. It's a competitor who figures it out first and starts delivering the same service faster and cheaper.

Potential risks

  • Decisions nobody can explain
  • Sensitive data in public tools
  • Falling behind competitors
  • No human in the loop

The pivot

The core holds steady. Everything in orbit adapts.

What it is

That's the whole mark: your core in the middle, and the five things that orbit it. None of the rings are the business. They're what the business runs on, and every one of them can be modernized, replaced, or rebuilt without touching what makes you who you are.

Why it matters

Threats change, tools change, and the rules change with them. A business that can swap out a system, adopt AI, or move to new encryption while its core stays put will outlast one that can't. That's the pivot: the center holds, and everything around it moves when it needs to.

How we work

We start by learning your core, then map what's orbiting it, strengthen what needs it, and hand it back documented so your team owns the result. Every phase ends with something you keep, and you can stop after any of them.
